This guide explains how to change your Peppol Access Point, when it makes sense to do it, how to manage deregistration with minimal impact, and how to handle the migration process effectively within your business systems.
Peppol has become a key standard for exchanging electronic invoices between companies and public authorities. It provides a secure, structured, and automated network for document exchange. From a compliance perspective, it works extremely well.
But what happens when the Peppol access point you initially selected no longer fits your operational, technical, or integration needs?
The good news is simple. Changing your Peppol access point is possible, fast, and does not impact your customers or suppliers.

Why companies change their Peppol access point
In many organisations, the initial choice of a Peppol access point was driven by one priority: becoming compliant quickly. A simple solution, sometimes bundled with existing software, allowed Peppol to be activated without friction. At that time, it was often the right decision.
Over time, however, organisations evolve. Systems change. Volumes increase. New tools are introduced. An ERP is replaced. Invoicing flows become more complex. Automation becomes a requirement rather than a nice to have.
In many cases, the original access point was never selected with long term integration in mind. As a result, companies start facing limitations such as:
Limited flexibility in supported formats.
Difficulties integrating Peppol flows with ERP or accounting systems.
Constraints when changing invoicing or finance tools.
Inbound and outbound flows that do not match operational needs.
Some systems only generate UBL BIS v3. Others work primarily with JSON or proprietary formats. Some handle sending well, but struggle with receiving. Others do not integrate cleanly with internal systems.
In these situations, Peppol itself is not the issue. The access point is.Today, Peppol is still primarily integrated with accounting and invoicing systems. While this covers an important part of the equation, it is only one aspect of enterprise data exchange.
In practice, invoice data is closely linked to operational systems, ERP platforms, procurement processes, supply chain workflows, and multiple internal applications used across the organisation.
As companies grow and their system landscape becomes more complex, limiting Peppol to a single accounting tool quickly becomes a constraint rather than an enabler.
Official Peppol Migration Process (Migration Key / Token)
Peppol’s official specifications define a participant migration process that can be used to transfer a Peppol registration from one service provider to another via a migration key (token). This mechanism is part of the Peppol Service Metadata Publisher (SMP) / Service Metadata Locator (SML) architecture and enables a more seamless transfer without fully deregistering the participant before re-registration.
In practice, this migration process is not widely supported across all access point providers and is often considered advanced or technical. Many providers do not expose migration key functionality in their user interfaces, so the typical approach remains to deactivate the current registration and re-register with the new access point manually.
If your current or new provider supports migration via a migration key, this can simplify the transition while maintaining your participant identifier.

What it really means to change a Peppol access point
Changing your Peppol access point does not mean changing your Peppol ID.It does not require informing your customers or suppliers. You keep the same Peppol identifier. You simply change the provider that connects your organisation to the Peppol network.
The process is straightforward and follows three main steps.
Step 1. Choose an access point that fits your architecture
A Peppol access point should adapt to your systems, formats, and processes, not the other way around.
PeppolEDGE is designed as a neutral integration layer. It allows organisations to keep their existing tools while connecting Peppol flows where they actually belong.
This means you can:
Continue using your current invoicing or ERP systems.
Exchange the formats your organisation already produces.
Integrate Peppol into your architecture instead of working around it.
From basic use cases to advanced automated workflows, the same access point can support evolving requirements over time.
Step 2. Deactivate your current Peppol registration
Before activating a new access point, your existing Peppol registration must be deactivated.
This step is essential to avoid invoices being routed to the wrong system, duplicate deliveries, or documents being lost between two access points.
Depending on your current setup, deactivation may be done directly in the software, via your accountant, or by contacting the provider’s support team.
If you are unsure where your company is currently registered, official Peppol lookup tools can be used to identify the active access point. These tools are also referenced in the Resources section of the PeppolEDGE website.

Deactivation procedures by common Peppol access points
Deactivation procedures vary depending on the access point and software in use. Below are common scenarios observed in practice.
Accountable
To deactivate a Peppol registration managed via Accountable, contact Accountable support and request the deregistration of your Peppol identifier. Once confirmed, you can activate Peppol with another access point.
Codabox and Doccle
Log in to your Codabox or Doccle account and check the Access Point / Peppol settings for an option to deactivate your Peppol registration. If the option is not visible or if a message indicates that the connection is linked to an active registration, contact support and request the deregistration. Wait for confirmation before proceeding.
ClearFacts
Peppol registration is often managed by the accountant. Deactivation is typically requested through the accounting firm, followed by confirmation once completed.
Adsolut
Similar to ClearFacts in most cases. Deactivation is usually initiated via the accountant or Adsolut support, with confirmation provided afterward.
Kyte
If no deactivation option is available in the application, the support team must be contacted to disable the Peppol registration.
Flowin
Depending on configuration, deactivation may be available directly in the application. If not, the support team must be contacted to disable the Peppol registration.
PeppolEDGE
Peppol registrations managed via PeppolEDGE can be deactivated by contacting PeppolEDGE support. Once the request is processed, confirmation is provided and the registration is removed from the network.
Billit
Billit generally allows deactivation through its interface via:
settings>company settings>Peppol configuration.
In specific cases, support assistance may be required to finalise the process.
ING Invoice Manager
Deactivation depends on the setup used. If no direct option is available, the support team should be contacted.
Breex
Similar to Billit or ING Invoice Manager. Deactivation can be handled via the application or via support depending on the configuration.
Unifiedpost and BillToBox
Log in to your BillToBox or Unifiedpost account using itsme (required for Peppol actions). Make sure the email address matches your account details. Open the Peppol section and select “Cancel publication” to deactivate the Peppol registration. Wait for the confirmation before activating a new access point.
OkiOki
Log in to your OkiOki account, go to Settings>Invoicing>Peppol connection, and select “Disconnect Peppol” (or equivalent). If the option is not available, contact support@okioki.be to request the deactivation. Wait for the confirmation before activating a new access point.
Teamleader
Send an email to peppol@teamleader.eu and explicitly request the deactivation of your Peppol registration. Wait for confirmation before activating a new access point.
Dexxter
Log in to your Dexxter account and go to Settings>Integrations>Peppol. Under Message reception, open the menu and select Unsubscribe. Repeat the action for each Peppol identifier if multiple identifiers are active. Wait for the confirmation before activating a new access point.
Odoo
Check within your Odoo environment whether Peppol can be deactivated directly from the application. If not, send a request to peppol@odoo.com asking for the deactivation of your Peppol registration. Wait for confirmation before proceeding.
TradeInterop and Exact Online
Deactivation depends on the integration used. Check within Exact Online whether a Peppol deactivation option is available. If not, contact TradeInterop or your integration partner and request the deactivation of your Peppol registration. Wait for confirmation before activating a new access point.
Onfact
Check within the Onfact application whether Peppol deactivation is available. If not, contact Onfact support and explicitly request the deactivation of your Peppol registration. Wait for confirmation before proceeding.
Step 3. Activate Peppol with your new access point
Once deactivation is confirmed, the new access point republishes your Peppol identifier on the network.
Your customers and suppliers do not need to change anything.Your Peppol ID remains the same. All new documents are routed automatically via the new access point.
In most cases, the transition is completed within a few hours or a few days if there is a complex integration.
Typical scenarios where a change makes sense
A company migrating to a new ERP and requiring flexible inbound and outbound integration.
An organisation centralising invoice reception while keeping multiple environments.
A business automating Peppol flows directly into internal systems.
A group standardising document formats across different subsidiaries.
In all these cases, the access point must act as an architectural component, not a constraint.

Why choose PeppolEDGE as your access point
PeppolEDGE is built on a simple principle. The Peppol network should integrate into your organisation, not dictate how your organisation works.
This translates into:
Independence from business software.
Support for multiple inbound and outbound formats.
Multiple integration options, including API, SMTP and SFTP.
